The building in which Pranavam homestays is run is part of a very old Hindu Nair Tharavad dating back to a few centuries. The legend is that the chieftain the Pazhassi Raja of Wayanad, who had to flee to escape from the wrath of British Empire and later got killed  in Malabar entrusted  part of his land holdings in South Wayanad running to a couple of lakhs of acres including forest along with the Goddess “Porkali (Kaali in War Mood)”, whom he was worshipping , in the woods near to this famili’s house!. The woods(Kaavu) still is there, the temples, the old farm houses etc  . Every year the family ,even now, have a very religious and ritualistic Pooja performed in which locals also join as the locals ,many are the Tribes like Paniyas,Kurichiars who believes along with others “Porkali Devi” is the giver and taker of this part of land. Nearly 100acres of land only are in the possession of this family now who does Coffee cultivation commercially and all other  crops like Paddy, spices, coconuts etc., for personal  use with organic traditional methods !!

The motto of Pranavam Homestay is to offer a glimpse of the cultural aspect of North Malabar like traditional matrilineal system practiced among Hindu –Nair Community, their food& cuisine, customs etc  by experiencing   through their open living style allowing visitors to  share a living with local family, the Hosts! Visitors also will have a guided tour in the sprawling coffee plantations and also served sumptuous Kerala Vegetarian homely cooked meals including the “Ila Sadhya” ! Remya and Ravi are both courteous, informative and generous in sharing them!!!

The Nearest airport is Calicut – 70 kms/ 2 ½ hrs
Mysore/Kabini in Karnataka is 150 kms / 3 ½ Hrs
